Engawa is a delightful hidden gem nestled in London’s vibrant Ham Yard. Renowned for its exquisite Japanese cuisine, this intimate restaurant offers a memorable dining experience. The highlight of Engawa lies in its carefully curated two-tiered Hakozenbento boxes, showcasing an array of seasonal vegetables and sushi paired with rich vegetable miso soup. Diners rave about the 5-course omakase menus, particularly the wagyu option, which exemplifies tenderness and flavor that melt in your mouth. Atmosphere plays a key role here, with an inviting ambiance complemented by attentive, friendly staff. Guests have praised the exceptional service, with many recounting the thoughtful touches, such as personalized desserts for special occasions. The presentation of each dish is a feast for the eyes, elevating the entire experience. While it may lean towards the pricier side, patrons agree that the quality of ingredients and meticulous preparations justify the expense. It is a small restaurant, but has such a lovely atmosphere (which was only ruined a bit by a loudly crying toddler). The staff was super friendly and nice and the food was absolutely delicious. We sat at the counter and it was very interesting to watch the chefs working. We had a bottle of sake with our 5 course omakase wagyu meal. It was my husbands birthday and he got a little candle in his desert which was a nice touch. It was on the expensive side, definitely not an every day dinner, but we enjoyed it immensely.

A sensational meal - our second visit to Engawa after we were blown away the first time- the 5 course signature Owasake menu today was even more wonderful this time. We paired it with the wine and sake taster menu and had the most incredible meal, melt in the mouth meat and sushi and delectable flavours throughout. Our server was so attentive and considerate, 5 star service. A truly wonderful experience. Thrilled to learn the restaurant also thoughtfully caters to gluten free diets so will be bringing our parents back asap. Arigato to all at Engawa

We came here for a celebration as this restaurant was recommended by a friend. This is a hidden gem. A very tiny restaurant with absolute 5 stars food quality and service. We loved the tender beef and fresh fish. Presentation is excellent. Staff were very lovely and attentive. An expensive restaurant but worth the money. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best meals I’ve eaten. Loved it from start to finish. Creative, delicious and full of surprises. Service was impeccable and welcoming. The wine menu was full of my favourites like Picpoul. Had the set menu (with the optional wagyu) and also a side of Eel. The bento style set menu was fun and one of my favourites had truffle. I’m trying not to spoil the surprises. It was definitely high quality produce and high quality cooking. The venue is small and gives a feeling of almost private dining. 10/10

Best Japanese restaurant in London, by a long way! I’ve visited Japan twice this year and have been fortunate enough to eat in many highly rated restaurants (I’m very fortunate!!!) but honestly, Engawa matches or even exceeds what I experienced in Japan. The food, drinks, staff... everything was fantastic! We spent a lot... but this was no problem at all and was well worth forking out! Will be visiting again!

Having lunch at Engawa was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in London. Every dish was a true work of art the wagyu served on a hot stone was simply spectacular, full of flavor and cooked to perfection, and the dessert of fresh fruit with mochi and edible flowers was the perfect finishing touch: delicate and beautifully presented. But what truly stood out was the service from Ayaka, our server, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional throughout the entire meal. She walked us through the menu with warmth and enthusiasm, making us feel genuinely welcomed. The restaurant’s atmosphere is intimate and elegant, and being able to watch the chefs work with such dedication is a real bonus. Engawa isn’t just a top quality restaurant it’s a complete experience that I absolutely recommend and one I’ll definitely return to.

Had the 5 course Sushi Omakase. It was very delicious ! The restaurant is small but cosy. There is a cloakroom. Reservation required. The staff are delightful and very polite. Non-alcoholic drink selection was a little disappointing but the food made up for it. The dessert was slightly underwhelming, and felt a little stodgy and blunt coming after such well crafted courses and refined food. The whole meal was very filling, overall it was an extremely pleasant experience.

We walked in on Wednesday evening spontaneously because we wanted to celebrate a good news and we got a nice table inside. We chose the 3 course sushi omakase with a wine pairing (with wine for me and sake for my husband). Pricey but really worth it! Delicious food, great staff, we had a wonderful experience! Truly recommended!
